This morning we continued with our 100th day celebration prep. Everyone decorated shakers to use in our parade tomorrow. Mrs. Beeli also stopped by for our weekly guidance lesson focused on friendship. She read Llama Llama and the Bully Goat. There was a lot of conversation around what a bully is and what to do if someone isn't being kind and a good friend. This afternoon in math we did a lot of work with white boards, number sentences and number bonds. Tomorrow is the 100th day and all the K/1 students are welcome to wear pajamas/comfy clothes to school!

This morning we did a few pages in our Alphabet Books and then we made crowns in preparation for the 100th day! The 100th Day will also be a pajama day for the K/1 wing so your child is welcome to wear their pajamas or comfy clothes to school on Wednesday.
This morning we finished our February calendars and did some book bag reading. Our Book Buddies came to see us this afternoon and we worked on illustrating the stories we had been working on the past two weeks. Math today took place in the hallway where we looked at our Groundhog Day graph. Mrs. Beeli also came to for our weekly guidance lesson. We talked a lot about "tattling" vs "reporting" and read about a class of pigs who liked to tattle. The take away: DON'T SQUEAL UNLESS IT'S A BIG DEAL! Report cards are also in Friday Folders today. Take time to look it over, let us know if you have any questions and please sign and return the envelope next week. We will use them again in June for your child's final report card.
Have a great weekend! This morning we learned about Groundhog Day and made our own little groundhogs. Everyone made a prediction and placed their groundhog on our graph above 'yes' or 'no' depending on whether or not they thought the groundhog was going to see its shadow. We have almost all of our groundhogs on the wall but are still waiting for a few. Tomorrow we will analyze our graph and see if our predictions were correct. We also added a new song to our Song & Poem binders. Report cards will be going home tomorrow, Please let us know if you have any questions about them.
This morning we finished up our van Gogh pictures and drew about what we've learned in Kindergarten so far this year. The pictures will go home on Friday in their report cards. This month we have also been introducing reading strategies to help us with words we get stuck on. Below are the three that we've introduced so far. Today in math we started our February calendars and practiced our number writing.
We are so sorry that the blog has been on hiatus! January is a very busy month and we didn't have much time to post! SORRY! But it's back and we hope to show you more of what has been going on in the classroom. This morning at Morning Meeting several athletes from the high school came over to lead us through some stretches and exercises. We then had two of them join us after and read our snack story to us. This morning we learned about Vincent van Gogh and everyone made his/her own Starry Night. They aren't quite finished but we will complete them next week. We went to our Book Buddies classroom today and worked on short stories that everyone started last week. Next week we will be illustrating them. Mrs. Beeli also joined us this afternoon and talked about ways to be a good friend. She will be joining us weekly for the next several weeks. We will be going to the Flynn on February 16th. If you are able to donate $10 to help cover the cost of the trip that would be greatly appreciated! Checks can be made out to Orchard PTO.
Have a great weekend! All week we have been takling about and learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and other people who have a significant impact on civil rights. This morning all the kindergarteners gathered together in the project room to read a book about Dr. King and contribute a handprint to our K MLK poster. This afternoon we read another MLK Jr. book with our Book Buddies and everyone wrote and illustrated how they could be a super friend. We ended the day with an all school assembly.
Remember, there is no school on Monday, 1/16, is honor of MLK Jr. day! Enjoy your long weekend and we will see your kiddos on Tuesday! This week we have been reading books and talking a lot about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and the important contributions he made during his life. This morning everyone made a portrait of Dr. King. One of Dr. King's quotes we talked about this morning, and is at the bottom of the portrait, is "I have decide to stick with love..." We discussed how this related to the message that Dr. King wanted to spread and why it's so important.
In math this week we have been focusing on number writing. We have worked really hard to make sure we're forming our numbers correctly and they're all facing the right direction. Please make sure your child has all of their winter gear, EVERYDAY! Even if there is no snow it's still cold and they need snowpants! We're back and working hard in 2017!
This week we introduced magnet boards. Our magnet boards are like big file folders which contain the letters of the alphabet. We use these letters to practice building words by sounding them out. We had a lot of fun building our gingerbread houses! Thank you to everyone who donated supplies and/or their time to help make this fun activity possible. We all really appreacite it!
